Five Best Tips for Radiant Summer Skin
We love our summers; warm sunshine, bar-b-ques, beaches and great vibes. But, with summer fun comes summer skin challenges!
Indoor cold air, offset by outside scorching temperatures, strips the skin of much needed moisture. Chlorine in the pool can further strip the skin of its natural oils causing dehydration and an impaired barrier function, leaving skin dry and flaky. Dehydrated skin can also trigger your skin to produce more oil – – leading to bacteria that can cause those annoying breakouts. Combine all of this with the free radicals bombarding our skin every day and you need skin intervention! Try these 5 basic and easy to follow tips:
Balance – applying a toner will help remove any trace residue left on your skin after cleansing. It will also bring your skin pH back to a neutral range which is essential for your skin to remain in a healthy state. It will also make your skin more receptive to absorbing your moisturizer and other treatments.
Hydrate – choose a moisturizer that contains a combination of emollients and humectants. Emollients will smooth the surface and fill in cracks between cells, to leave skin soft and plump. Humectants will boost and bind moisture to the surface of the skin which will prevent dehydration.
Detoxify – metals, free radicals and pollutants can build up especially with increased exposure to the environment. Clay masks help purify and detoxify the skin, and at the same time deposit valuable natural minerals into your skin.
Exfoliate – to bring out your own inner radiance. Cell turnover is the way our own skin produces new healthy cells. However our cell turnover slows as we age. Exfoliators speed up cell renewal by removing that outer, dull occlusive layer of dead skin and giving skin back that youthful radiance and natural glow.
Protect – don’t forget the sunscreen! Seek out a broad spectrum sunscreen with a minimum of SPF30 and apply it generously 20-30 minutes before heading out into the sun. Sunscreen application can go a long way in minimizing sun related spots and could even help delay the onset of fine lines and wrinkles.
